Paul wrote the books of 1st and 2nd Corinthians to address issues in the young church of Corinth. The new Christians in this church were dealing with a lack of unity, immorality, idolatry, selfishness, disorder and many other destructive issues. Paul’s letters were a response to this crisis and the questions they were facing.
Desperately wanting these Christians to grow in Christ, he explains the unexpected, counterintuitive way to get there--living against the grain of culture. Reminding us time and time again that this world is not our home, he teaches that we must fight the urge to “fit in”. Instead, we are to live a contrarian life and become more and more like Jesus. As we study through Paul’s letters to the church in Corinth we will develop an OUT OF THIS WORLD faith.
